Know that every bite of my Buttermilk SLAP Biscuits is a taste of family tradition of love, laughter, togetherness and a sprinkle of magic that began in the busy Bed & Breakfast kitchen of HospiTalent Mariby Corpening.
Growing up in Newark NJ, I witnessed the art of biscuit-making from my grandmother—a domestic maid, whose hard-working hands served and fed, as well, our family—mixed up some flour and buttermilk (and in that day, lard) into a mouth full of magic at every Sunday breakfast, along with tales of family, fun, lots of laughter and for me, so much of joy. Why, I imagine, I just love me some home-made bread, served hot from the oven—my weakness!
WOW and 50 years later, quite unexpectedly, here I am, owner, operator, chief biscuits maker at my very own Bed & Breakfast, least to say, At National Harbor! And I’ve somehow crafted my own twist—a biscuit so soft, so fluffy, so rich with a buttery-crispness that a guest once said, “These biscuits are so good, umma bout to SLAP somebody;” hence, my Buttermilk SLAP Biscuit were born.
Truly, what makes them special? I believe, merely that I take the time to make them...from scratch. Each pan of biscuits is lovingly—and I do mean, every time—baked to golden ooom, ooom goodness and infused with Mariby’s secret ingredient: A passion for bringing people together! Whether you enjoy my SLAP biscuits with a dollop of my fresh-made strawberry jam, a drizzle of Grannie’s raw honey or her favored Black Strap Molasses, my Buttermilk SLAP Biscuits, always served hot out of the oven, transform any meal into a celebration!
