OMG! I had to apologize to Grannie, because I know I was smack’n at the table this morning! Against all proper etiquette! Rude! But, and, and even Grannie ate the whole sandwich (usually, she only can do half); so, I KNOW IT WAS SLAM’N! Do you hear me, and, and My Maimouna ate it so fast, I heard her go, “Ooooooom,” then she yelled, THANK YOU Momi! Yup! THAT GOOD!

20, 30 years ago, it was a standard run to Negril, while out for errands and shopping on a Saturday, when we would drive all the way out to Silver Spring, MD to pick up some JAMAICAN BEEF PATTIES!

Baby Girl has kept my imagination pretty busy with some truly nostalgic home cooking! We like, and so I made, both chicken and beef, and spicy, too! DELICIOUS! #ThingsThatMakeYouGoOom

BLACK CASTLE HAMBURGERS

JUMP IN MY RIDE! IT’S FRIDAY NIGHT!

HOME-MADE VEGGED UP BLACK CASTLE HAMBURGERS for My Baby Girl, who merely asked for burgers, and you know me, here I go! And, now, um gon take y’all back:

It’s Friday, school’s out, hot summer night in the city. Grannie (errbody called her Cissy back then), after hanging out late night at the after hour, yes, drunk and hungry, swings by the house in her little VW Karmann Ghia and all of us kids, fortunate enough to be sitting on the front porch in that moment in time, all jump up, run and literally squeeze into that cool little car, when Cissy yells, “Um going to White Castle!!!”

OMG, we devoured those little square burgers, hot off the grill - 2, 4, 6 at a time. You can imagine the fumes - summer-in-the-city sweaty and sardined in the back seat of that tiny hot yellow getaway car and we greased right there in the parking lot, until...the farting began... LOL “Eeeuuuwwh, oh, who farted!” Stuffed bellies big-o-laughter memories!

What a treat it was back then on a Friday late Summer night. I’d share these memories with my daughter; so, when she said, “Momi, can we have burgers!” Well, it took me back!

MY NOSTALGIC VEGGED UP version - #HospiTalent Mariby Corpening’s BLACK CASTLE HAMBURGERS - And get this, us grown folks can appreciate that I added equals parts of ROASTED VEGETABLES to my seasoned ground beef mix and baked one big baking sheet pan-size with, of course, the infamous abundance of chopped onions and finished off with cheese, ketchup, pickle, mustard, all on a soft hot-steamed bun and OMG! #ThingsThatMakeYouGoOom
