In Honor of Our African Heritage, I say pridefully, My Mother-In-Law from Senegal, West Africa, in an unexpected, true to a life affirming experience—Travel to Africa for the first time! Oh, wow, my being came alive—as if long lost, I had come back home, is how my African brothers and sisters greeted me—WELCOME HOME! But, it was the warm embrace, gentle smile and the wisdom of her times in the eyes of Madame Sanata Traore that sealed my fate, my faith, my path, my purpose! Who knew! It was never in my plans to be married, nor have children; so, to think, had I not met my ex, married and bore my beauuuutiful daughter, I would have missed THIS LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE—the unforgettable moment in My Time of embracing Madame Traore—indeed a former princess from the Malian Empire of West Africa. I was honored to have met her and to become a mere shadow of her life and legacy! So, this dedication, and I’ll admit, as much to my ex—both of whom have undeniably been an inspiration on so many levels in my knowing, living and celebrating our native roots—and I mean, in every way, from never-before travel, real whole food and my love for cooking with depths of flavor, my manor of dress (in beautiful, colorful, flowing “Bubu” dresses, I make myself), to obviously my Afro-rich home decor and especially, my music, which I call, my “International Soul Playlist,” I’ve collected over the past 30 years! PROFOUND INFLUENCE!

SANATA’S ROOM—Standard size room, features queen-size hand-carved 4-poster-bed (sleeps 2) wrapped in shades of Indigo, Blue Violet & Merigold, showcasing our African pride & customs in textures, patterns & prints with shared full bath.

AccommOdations INCLUDE:

• One of Three Standard-Size Guests Rooms — Eloquently appointed with queen-size bed, goose down-stuffed douvet comforter, soft bamboo sheets, 100% cotton towels, plush fleece bathrobes, abundant welcoming toiletry tray and with full bath

• Kitchen — Access to full kitchen—except, cooking on the stove top is not permitted—and guests are fully responsible for cleaning up after themselves. NOTE: Breakfast is NOT included with room rate(s); though, Breakfast Options are available with advanced notice. Complimentary Help-Yourself Continental is available throughout your stay. • Morning/TV Room — As there are no TVs in my guest rooms, this room is cozy and comfortable and in the mornings, put your feet up and sip a cup of coffee in the warm sun

• Formal Dining/Meeting Room — Fit for grandeur, comfortably serves up to 10 guests (seated) for 5-Star Private Dining Experiences—at charge by reservation only

• Living/Drawing Room Galleria — Warm and inviting with master chess table, games and lots of nostalgic photos and African-American history

• Outdoor Balcony/Deck — Private backyard deck and scenic front balcony with gorgeous sunsets, views of National Harbor, MGM, Woodrow Wilson Bridge and across the bridge into Alexandria, VA, not to mention, random fireworks display off the bank of the Potomac River at National Harbor
