Beauty ... As Is
I've been a big girl all of my life! Never really quite fit into the latest, the fashionable, the cutesy or the stylish, slender-only standards of conventional clothing ... until I went to Africa! There is where I saw honored and daily celebrated, my natural beauty - as is, enhanced only by a colorfully-rich fabric literally thrown about the body, no matter my hair, no makeup, nor activity. I felt ... free! I felt like ... A Queen! I immediately felt a connection with the power of authentic beauty, the power within myself, that I am beautiful - As Is - Natural, Lovely, Flowing, Free ... Me!
I had a few dresses (called, Boubous or Kaftans) made when I was in Senegal, West Africa (see images below) and I will tell you straight, that my dresses pale in comparison
Oh, my dresses pale in comparison to the beautifully rich, colorful, ornate jewels of the dresses made in Senegal.
to the beautifully rich, colorful, ornate jewels of the dresses made in Senegal. No matter, I then began making my own, tailoring my dresses to compliment my body, my size, my simpler style, my choice of rich colors and flowing fabrics, embellished with a scarf, a shawl and/or head wrap and I even made My Own Earrings to Match - what became truly ... me, my style, what I call, My Queendom! No kidding, everyday someone comes up to me and says, How regal, How beautiful or Where can I get one of those dresses?
And now, you can, too! I will make you a Beauty-Free dress of your very own and My Earrings to match!
Beauty ... Natural, Lovely, Flowing ... Free!
That's My Baby!
emulates what she sees and so she believes that she is the epitome of BEAUTY...natural, lovely, flowing...free - A PIECE OF ME!
for My Queendom PHotos
Though, and I must say, this is the image that truly inspired me and My Queendom Photos, a copy given to me by my mother-in-law, Madam Traore, on my very first visit to Africa - her sister-in-law, Kandia Sidibe from Mali, West Africa. I can only guess that it was taken likely in the early 1900s. A beautiful and memorable image and why I believe every woman should have an heirloom image of herself - for history's take!

When Beauty speaks for itself
Some inspiring photos I took back in 2004 of my beautiful sisters - All Queened Up - in dresses (called "Boubous" or "Kaftans") I'd brought back from Senegal, West Africa. The beauty speaks for itself!
